Physical and electronic document management specialist, Cave Tab Ltd is helping UK organisations meet their environmental targets and commitments with the launch of tabZEROfile, the UK’s first carbon neutral file folder.

Whilst many of today’s office products are manufactured using recycled materials, tabZEROfile is the only completely carbon neutral file folder currently on the market. By taking a holistic view of the product manufacturing lifecycle – including packaging, transportation and disposal – Cave Tab has developed a 100% recycled, acid free product with recyclable and reusable packaging.

And whilst it is impossible to manufacture products without generating CO2, Cave Tab has partnered with US-based Zerofootprint Group to calculate and offset these emissions by contributing to the Garcia River Forest in Northern Carolina, California’s first large nonprofit-owned working forest. The forest is primarily planted with redwoods which store more carbon per acre than any other forest type. Sustainable management of the Garcia River Forest enables the storage of more than 77,000 tons of carbon emissions annually, equivalent to taking more than 14,000 cars off the road every year.

Finjan Inc., a leader in secure web gateway products and the provider of unified web security solutions for the enterprise market, is proud to announce that the US District Court in Delaware has ruled in favor of Finjan, affirming a jury verdict against Secure Computing Corporation currently owned by McAfee. The Court issued a permanent injunction against the sale of the WebWasher and TSP Products for infringement of Finjan’s U.S. Patent Nos. 6,092,194 / 6,804,780 / 7,058,822. The Court also affirmed the jury’s damages award and determination that the infringement was willful and enhanced the damages’ award for the wilful infringement of Finjan’s patents. ARX and Cap Gemini have implemented the CoSign digital signature solution at the Hoge Raad der Nederlanden, the Dutch Supreme Court. By deploying CoSign, the Dutch Supreme Court eliminated the need to reintroduce paper into their workflow for signing purposes, completing the final step in their paperless processes.

The Dutch Supreme Court reviews thousands of lower court decisions each year. This responsibility results in an enormous archive of official documents. In order to better handle and access their documentation, the court decided to migrate their workflow process to an Open Text Document Management System, requesting Cap Gemini to coordinate and advise on the project. However, even with a document management system, court documents that required signatures needed to be printed, reintroducing paper into the workflow together with the associated costs and delays. A digital signature solution for Open Text was an ideal resolution, as it removed the court’s need to print documentation for signing purposes and allowed it to fully leverage the benefits of its document management system.

Canon UK, world leader in digital imaging technology, has today announced the launch of a Software Development Kit (SDK) for its market-leading ScanFront 220/220P network scanners. Two levels of the development package are available to independent software vendors (ISVs) through this SDK, a User Interface Customisation Tool and an Add-in SDK.

With the User Interface Customisation Tool, developers can quickly and easily create branded or customised skins on the display of the ScanFront, such as adding end-users’ company logo or corporate colours. The ability to provide this level of personalisation gives developers an opportunity to create unique customer propositions when selling Canon’s market-leading network scanners, allowing greater differentiation in the market.

The new Add-in SDK enables ISVs to develop their own unique document capturing solutions that enhance the existing functionality of the ScanFront 220/220P scanners. These might include creating customised and unique device logon processes, or adding the ability to capture vital meta-data information for easy integration with Enterprise Content Management (ECM) systems.

Ipswitch, Inc. File Transfer division, the leading developer of comprehensive secure and managed file transfer solutions, has announced its sponsorship of a new benchmark report called File Transfer is Not What it Used to Be: It's Secure, Reliable and Well-Managed, published by Aberdeen Group, a Harte-Hanks Company (NYSE:HHS). This report explains why the time has come for file transfer to come out of the basement and gain recognition for what it is: as a mission-critical, enterprise-class application.

"Managing the surprising degree of complexity that can be involved in the simple notion of transferring files from point A to point B cannot be the best allocation of any organization's limited IT resources, or end-user time and effort," said Derek E. Brink, vice president and research fellow for IT Security, Aberdeen Group. "Aberdeen's research has shown that persisting in the digital do-it-yourself approach to file transfer is not secure, not convenient, not compliant, and definitely not 'free.'"

Five key findings from the research:

1. Best-in-Class companies (top 20% of surveyed companies) experienced 10 times fewer data loss or data exposure incidents related to file transfer in the past 12 months compared to Laggards (bottom 30%).
2. Based on an average cost per security incident of $640,000, Best-in-Class companies avoided more than $6M in expenses in the last 12 months compared to Laggard organizations.
3. Best-in-Class companies save $150,000 in net present value for every full-time equivalent help desk staff assigned primarily to file transfer-related issues.
4. On an annualised basis, Best-in-Class companies reduced simple human error (e.g., policy violations) related to file transfer by 6.5% compared to Laggards.
5. In comparison to Laggards, Best-in-Class companies reduced the number of audit deficiencies related to file transfer by 6.3% over the past 12 months.

Today’s file transfer solutions have quietly transformed themselves into full-featured, enterprise-class solutions that enable secure, reliable and well-managed webs of critical connections for person-to-person collaboration and process-to-process integration. As a prime example of the modern "plumbing" that enables collaboration and integrates business processes, secure and managed file transfer solutions have specifically been designed to liberate overburdened administrators and end-users from the cost and complexity of managing file transfers in the typical heterogeneous IT computing infrastructure. Secure, managed file transfer also addresses many of the security and cost shortcomings of physical "copy and carry" delivery mechanisms and legacy "digital do-it-yourself" file transfer approaches.

A complimentary copy of the File Transfer is Not What it Used to Be report is made available in part by the support of Ipswitch File Transfer.
