Netdocs Plc has been appointed as the first southern-based UK re-seller for the Opex range of post opening and scanner equipment.

The Opex ‘Model 51 Mixed Mail Extraction Desk’ has been installed in the dedicated Netdocs showroom in Leicester and the Opex ‘AS3690i High Speed Scanner with Integrated Mail Extraction’ is on it’s way from the factory in the US.

Netdocs Managing Director Paul Timmerman explains; “We target customers with high volumes of documents to be processed on the day of arrival and at the lowest cost possible. Our Satellite Hosted Workflow solutions enable documents to be processed in the UK, India or China and we need to offer flexible solutions to get the documents into the Workflow. We already offer PO Box solutions were we receive and scan the post on our clients’ behalf, while Scan to FTP solutions work well for low volumes of documents from multiple locations like hotel chains.

We come across more and more opportunities where our customers are looking for a complete Digital Mailroom solution and the AS3690i High Speed Scanner with Integrated Mail Extraction equipment fits the bill. The customers can either staff this equipment themselves or we can manage the facility on the customer’s site or at our own dedicated facility in Leicester.

By combining the Opex mailroom and Netdocs workflow technologies we can offer an end to end solution to take the cost out of business processes like Accounts Payable & Receivable, HR and CRM.”

Shaun Lee, Director of Operations, EMEA, OPEX Corporation added, “I am extremely impressed with the way Netdocs have realised the potential of our AS/51 digital mailroom solution, it really is the fastest way to get scanned images from documents which have to be taken out of envelopes. I am sure that with this unique technology heading up netdocs’ digital mailroom and scanning operations that they will be ideally placed to capitalise on the advantages of combining mail opening/extraction and scanning in one simple operation with only 1 operator. I look forward to being an integral part of ‘netdocs’ success going forward’.

IT Security professionals admit that they are suffering from password fatigue when it comes to using their mobile devices, which leaves their data exposed to personal and corporate identity theft if these devices were to fall into the wrong hands. That's according to a survey released today by endpoint data protection specialists CREDANT Technologies, who conducted the 'mobile usage survey' amongst 227 IT professionals with the majority drawn from companies that employ more than 1000 people.

Thirty five percent revealed they just don't get around to using a password on their business phones and smartphones, even though they know they should as they contain sensitive and confidential information! Surprisingly, IT professionals are only marginally better at using passwords than the general population, as a survey conducted earlier in the year by CREDANT found that 40% of all users don't bother with passwords on their mobile phones.

The sorts of information that IT professionals are storing on their smartphones and mobiles, many of which are totally unprotected with a password, include:

- 80% Business names and addresses
- 66% Personal names and addresses
- 23% Business emails
- 16% Personal emails
- 12% Bank account details
- 12% Business diary with details of all their appointments and meetings
- 7% Personal diary
- 5% Credit card information
- 4% photos
- 1% Passwords and Pin numbers

Andrew Kahl, Sr. VP of Operations & Co-Founder from CREDANT Technologies explains "It is alarming to note that the very people who are responsible for IT security are not much better at protecting the information on their business phones than most of their co-workers, who don't necessarily know any better. If a mobile or smartphone goes missing and isn't protected with a password, and contains business names and addresses and other corporate data such as business emails, then the company is immediately in breach of the data protection act by failing to meet some of its principals on electronic data."

"Of even greater concern is the damage that can be done to a company, and the individual who is responsible for the phone, if it falls into the wrong hands, which could expose them to personal or corporate identity theft. It is therefore imperative that all mobile phone users who hold sensitive data, either personal or corporate, should always password protect it at a minimum - and encrypt it if the data is really sensitive." added Kahl.

According to the IT professionals surveyed, the worst culprits at addressing mobile security within their companies are typically the sales teams, followed by the board of directors and senior management. HR comes out as the best at keeping their mobiles aligned to the corporate mobile security policy.

The survey also found that a third of IT professionals use their own personal mobile phone for work purposes even though the company specifically bans them for business use with almost a fifth spending more than an hour or more per day on their own personal phone for business purposes.

The AIIM Roadshow has strengthened its position as the UK's leading Enterprise Content Management (ECM) event following an overwhelming response to its 2009 conference that was held in five major UK cities from the 1st to the 5th of June. Over 800 key business and IT decision makers united in five major UK cities, seeking expert advice on the latest products and taking part in heated debate on burgeoning issues including the new ECM model from Microsoft SharePoint.
The AIIM Roadshow 2009 kicked off each venue with well-attended keynotes from the Managing Director of AIIM Europe, Doug Miles and Product Manager MOSS, Microsoft UK, Steve Marsh. In his talk on a recent AIIM user report on the current state of ECM, Miles acknowledged two big themes emerging from ECM today; document-centric business processes and document-sharing project collaboration, which he stated were essentially displacing the original theme of ‘scan and retrieve’. Miles also acknowledged that improving efficiency was still the number one driver for implementing ECM and Microsoft SharePoint was facing a 65% market penetration within the next two years.

Reading Borough Council’s partnership with Northgate Public Services is delivering economic and environmental gains to the council, at a time when local authorities are under increasing pressure to deliver efficient and effective services.
Using Northgate’s electronic document management system (Northgate EDMS), Reading has slashed the time taken to source documents by two thirds, and the time taken to locate an invoice from fifteen minutes to just one minute.
Northgate EDMS enables local authorities to capture, manage, store, deliver and share documents electronically. In a project to free up space, the incremental roll-out of the system targeted paper-heavy departments, including Revenues & Benefits, Housing and the payroll and creditor teams. The space saved as a result of the reduction in storage space is the equivalent to desk space for twelve employees.

Core Security Technologies, provider of CORE IMPACT, the most comprehensive product for proactive enterprise security testing, today issued an advisory disclosing a vulnerability that could affect millions of individuals and businesses using Microsoft’s Internet Explorer web browsing software.
A vulnerability researcher working in CoreLabs, the research arm of Core Security Technologies, discovered that in some cases when affected versions of Internet Explorer are used to access an external website, the browser does not apply the appropriate security permissions, thus allowing unknown sites or applications to be treated as trusted URLs. This could potentially lead to malicious or infected URLs remotely executing scripts on systems running the affected versions of IE, via either drive-by or downloaded attacks, without the end user’s knowledge or permission to do so.
